Effective 9/25/04, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals will charge $326 for a 5 dose package (an increase of $5 per dose) of Prevnar (CPT 90669 pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, for children under 5 years, for intramuscular use). Members are advised to review their contracts with insurers to determine coverage for this price increase and to work with their AAP chapters to notify their local carriers.
The AAP will be sending letters to national health plan carriers encouraging compensation that covers practice expenses (a copy will be posted in the Member Center (http://www.aap.org/moc), on the Private Sector Advocacy page). AAP members are encouraged to access this area on the Member Center to review additional strategies to ensure proper reimbursement. |
